Reach for the Sky tells the inspiring true story of war hero Douglas Bader (Kenneth More), who, despite losing both his legs in a flying accident in 1931, went on to play a major role in the Battle of Britain. In 1941 Bader was detained as a POW following a collision with another plane over France. After several failed attempts at escape, he was sent to Colditz, where he remained until the end of the war. Perfectly capturing the spirit and determination to overcome disability, this film also follows the pattern of Britain's own struggle through adversity during the war. Reach for the Sky marked the start of distributing in this country by J. Arthur Rank.
